'Last Witches on Earth' Review: New Indie Animated Series is a Force to be Reckoned With
Dimsumangel Nails Charming and Cheeky Tone in New Witch-y Web Series
From hits like Gravity Falls and Adventure Time to ethereal shows like Star VS the Forces of Evil and Over the Garden Wall, it's no surprise that the cozy and slightly strange have found success again and again. 20-year-old, Lance Chua (who goes by the alias Dimsumangel), released their candy colored animated series entitled Last Witches on Earth this past May.
The fantasy-comedy follows cigarette smoking, tarot reading, fairy saving witches, modeled after queer people in their early 20s. Though only two episodes have been released so far, the feeling that Dimsumangel is onto something big rushes through me.
The animation alone is something you want to eat. It's the perfect cosmic, fall feel with late-night bedroom chuckles. The sound design feels like you're answering your best friends call through your mom's hot pink RAZR flip phone. Using Andrew Fleming's The Craft and Meredith Alloway's feature debut, Forbidden Fruits, Dimsumangel captures a slightly spooky, lighthearted, and cheeky tone.
Last Witches on Earth revives the feeling of fall days inside, while mixing in a heavy helping of cosmic energy. Dimsumangel is definitely someone to keep your eye on.
