It's the most wonderful time to watch Holiday Horror with our list of 5 spine tingling flicks!

Holiday season is finally here and the best way to get in the spirit is with a cup of hot chocolate, watching movies with your coven. Though we love our classics like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, and It's A Wonderful Life, we make time for our horror favorites.

We've compiled a list of 5 Holiday Horror movies ranging from lesser known shorts to blockbuster creature features. All titles are available on streaming or rental! (Maybe a good opportunity to grab your favorite on physical media!)

  1. Ginger Snaps (2000)

If you ever watched Another Cinderella Story with Selena Gomez (we know you have) and were drawn to the two goofy stepsisters, here's your chance to see them in their element where their chemistry began! Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins appear in John Fawcett's quirky and sexy horror comedy, as two outcast sisters who navigate the spiraling events after being bit by a werewolf.

Creepy stop motion had the early '90s in a chokehold! Nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 1993 Academy Awards, Paul Berry recreates your childhood fear of what's lurking in the dark. Based on the classic European tale, a little boy encounters a terrifying figment of his imagination within the shadows of his bedroom.

  1. Don't Look Now (1973)

The real question is, is this a holiday movie or is it just cold? Don't Look Now is somehow the perfect mix of cozy, heartbreaking, and spooky that we just had to include it in the list! Nicolas Roeg's (basically) giallo is about a married couple while grieving the death of their young daughter, relocate to Venice in the midst of a murder spree within the city's canals.

  1. The Lodge (2019)

If you're a sucker for quiet horror, the team behind Goodnight Mommy create a suffocating and claustrophobic atmosphere in this 2019 holiday nightmare. For our more modern arthouse pick, Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz's heavy psychological horror centers on a soon to be step mom snowed in a holiday cabin with her fiance's two children. Through a chain of strange events, Riley Keough is confronted by her very strict religious upbringing.

The Thing -- Amazon Prime

  1. The Thing (1982)

We couldn't complete the list without this John Carpenter classic! Where psychological horror meets creature feature, The Thing has remained a top cult classic since its release. Bringing you one of the best films to use practical effects and complex themes, inspiring many filmmakers on this list.
